“Be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe. No less than the trees and the stars. In the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.”

Child Therapy

Imagine for a moment what navigating one’s emotional world must be like for a young child in today’s society? Safe to say, quite a bit different than what I can personally remember. I very much value my therapeutic relationships with our younger members of our population. I enjoy helping children develop a positive concept of self. I like to walk with them as they show their courage to challenge what is not serving them well, and replacing it with a life of healthy thoughts and feelings.

When working with children I will often encourage the child’s parents/caregivers to be as involved in the therapeutic process as the situation requires. I see a great amount of value working with parents/caregivers as you know your little ones best and are a great source of knowledge. You are also the leading support in your child’s circle of care, so your input is pivotal. My specialty is working with kids aged 8 and up, however consultations are welcomed for younger children, including therapeutic referrals.

To name a few of the more common issues I am requested to support children with include the following:

  • social/performance anxiety
  • social development (e.g. friendship skills)/peer differences
  • defiance and conflict issues related to persons of authority
  • depression
  • childhood trauma
